1. 表示“面積”，通常是可數(shù)名詞，但在某些表達(dá)中也用作不可數(shù)名詞。在具體使用時(shí)注意以下幾點(diǎn)：(from www.nmet168.com)

(1) 詢(xún)問(wèn)面積的大小，通常用疑問(wèn)詞 what：What is the area ofthe school? 這個(gè)學(xué)校面積有多大?

(2) 表示某地面積大小的方法很多：

我們庭園的面積為20平方米。

正：Our garden has an area of twenty square meters.

正：The area of our garden is twenty square meters.

正：Our garden is twenty square meters in area.

正：Our garden covers an area of twenty square meters.

(3) 表示“面積”最經(jīng)常用的單位是square (平方)這個(gè)詞：squaremeter 平方米 / square foot 平方英尺 / squre inch 平方英寸 / squarekilometer 平方公里，等等。此外還有：acre 英畝 / hectare 公頃

2. 表示“地區(qū)”、“地帶”，是可數(shù)名詞：

There aren’t manywild birds in this area. 這一帶野生鳥(niǎo)類(lèi)不多。

There’re largeareas in Australia still unpopulated. 在澳大利亞還有大片地區(qū)至今荒無(wú)人煙。

Parking is prohibited in this area. 此處禁止停車(chē)。

3. 有時(shí)可引申為“領(lǐng)域”、“方面”，是可數(shù)名詞：

There havebeen many developments in the area of language teaching. 語(yǔ)言教學(xué)方面已有許多新的發(fā)展。
