What would the world be like if cars could drive themselves? Imagine seeing an empty car passing by on its way to pick up its owner, or a car full of passengers who are reading, listening to music or even sleeping. But none of them are worried about the road ahead.
Well, all of this could be the future of driving. There are several companies, including Google, working on driverless cars. So far, no Google self-driven car has gotten a traffic ticket, but some of them have been in accidents when other cars hit them.
These are now still in the testing stages. But, if the tests are successful, these electric self-driven cars could be put into use very soon.
The cars have already got many features allowing them to take the place of drivers during certain situations. Some features include cars being able to park themselves, or slow down when they notice objects close by. They can also control the speed if there are in dangerous conditions.
Scientists and engineers believe, with the help of wireless signals, cameras and GPS, we are now at a stage where creating a safe self-driven car might be possible.
The cause of deadly road accidents is usually careless drivers or dangerous conditions. The self-driven car may be able to prevent these. However, some people do not like the idea. American lawyer Whit Drake, for example, doesn’t believe these cars are safe. He thinks that technologies can also be mistakes.

My favorite great book is The Adventure of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain. Tom Sawyer is a smart but naughty young boy living in the small town on the Mississippi River. He is an orphan and lives with his aunt. He has many clever ideas, but doesn’t like school, and always likes to escape the school to fish. Tom has a trusted friend, Huck Finn, who few of the adults approve of. Tom Sawyer and Finn have great adventures on the Mississippi River, pretending to be pirates, attending their own funeral(葬禮), and witnessing a murder. Tom overcomes fear and appears in court and speaks out the murderer. He and his friends finally discover a lot of treasures and they become millionaires...
My favorite scene in the book is when everyone thinks Tom is dead. He decides to go to his own funeral. He hides and watches for a time, and then suddenly he appears. Everyone is surprised to see him but they’re also pleased to see him alive.
Mark Twain’s writing was based on his own childhood and his personal experience. What makes this story great is that Tom Sawyer represents everything that is great about childhood. It is a story filled with action, adventure, ingenious ideas, love, and schoolyard politics. The whole story is seemingly a complication of what Twain did or wishes he did during his childhood.
Why do I think The Adventure of Tom Sawyer is a great book? Mark Twain wrote the story in 1876, but it’s still read and loved by people all over the world today. And although it’s only a story. Twain wrote it in the everyday English of the southern states of America in the 19th century, so it sounds very real. Today it’s thought to be one of the greatest books in American literature. Go on--- read it! I know you’ll enjoy it, too.
( )41. Which of the following doesn’t fit in with Tom?
A. He is a good student. B. He has a trusted friend.
C. He often escapes the school. D. Both of his parents died when he was young.
( )42. How did people feel when Tom appeared at his own funeral?
A. They were frightened and happy. B. They were surprised and sad.
C. They were worried and excited. D. They were surprised and pleased.
( )43. What is the whole book mainly about?
A. Freedom and social rules. B. The growth of young children.
C. Children’s bad behaviour. D. Strangers in American small towns.
( )44. What’s the purpose of the writer to write the article?
A. To ask us to read the book.
B. To tell us how popular the book is today.
C. To tell us when Mark Twain wrote the story.
D. To tell us why the story sounds very real.
( )45. Which of the following is NOT true?
A. There is 19th century dialect (方言) in the book.
B. Tom Sawyer prefers fishing to going to school.
C. The story is about Mark Twain’s personal experience.
D. The whole story represents Twain’s wishes during his childhood.

閱讀下列短文,根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容完成表格中所缺信息,每空一詞。
Nowadays, WeChat is becoming more and more popular in the world. No matter where we are, on the light rail, in a coffee shop, even walking on the street, we always find that people using WeChat around us.
According to some people, there are lots of reasons for the popularity of WeChat. First of all, it is easy to use. You can log in to it with your phone number and start a conversation by tapping the speak button. In addition, WeChat is a wonderful platform for people to share a great deal of information. Meanwhile, using WeChat, you can also do group chats, weChat pay, online games, sending lucky money or find new friends nearby to talk to, which helps make many friends and express your feelings and ideas more freely.
On the other hand, some people argue that although WeChat benefits us a lot, it has some drawbacks. When using WeChat, people may forget time and some may even get addicted (上癮) to it, which will affect their study and work. At the same time, spending too much time on the screen does affect eye health, which may cause trouble. Worse still, people may let out their personal information while using it, which may lead to crimes.
As far as I know, everyone is supposed to use WeChat within limits. As a student, I think that WeChat is not only useful but also dangerous. Therefore, I insist that we shouldn’t spend too much time on it. We should balance life’s competing interests--- in a student’s case, study, health and safety. And it’s of very importance for us to protect ourselves when we use it.

Perhaps you’ve already watched or heard about Readers (《朗讀者》), a TV show that has recently become popular. It invites different people to read aloud on the stage, as well as tell the touching stories behind them. They can read everything, like poems, books, and letters.
Many people are fans of the show and begin to enjoy reading aloud at home. Now the show gives people a special place to read across China. Reading pavilions (朗讀亭) are now in cities like Shanghai, Hangzhou and Xi’an.
The pavilion is quite small. Only one person can come into it each time. There is a microphone in it and it records people’s voices. Everyone can read anything they like for three minutes in the pavilion. The show will later pick some of the readers and invite them to read on TV.
People of all ages have come and read in the pavilion, according to People’s Daily. “Reading should be just like singing and talking,” said Dong Qing, the host of the show. “We can actually express our deep feelings through reading aloud.”
Both the TV show and the pavilion are promoting reading among the public. In fact, this is also what our country is trying to do now.
