在美式英語中，notion可指“雜貨”，如針，線和帶等物；
notion后接的介詞of在大部分情況下可省略。
He must have some notion (of) what happened last week.
I have no notion (of) whose house this is.
Have you any notion (of) when he will come?

notion作“概念,觀念,看法”解時,常接that引導的從句作notion的同位語。
notion作“突然的念頭,奇想,意圖,打算”解時常接動詞不定式或“of+ v -ing”作定語。
notion作“理解,明白”解時前面常用no, any, some修飾,其后可接of引導的介詞短語,也可接what引導的同位語從句。
