詞語(yǔ)用法:
provide作及物動(dòng)詞時(shí)，指“規(guī)定”，后可接that從句。值得注意的是從句中要用shall/should，不用will/would，偶爾可用虛擬現(xiàn)在式。
The contract provides that only the best materials shall be used.
The contract provides that only the best materials be used.
合同規(guī)定說(shuō)只允許用最好的材料。
provided可作連接詞，原屬于provide的過(guò)去分詞， provided ...或provided that ...指“規(guī)定或以……作條件”。當(dāng)用于正式英語(yǔ)中時(shí)，provided .../provided that ...可等同于“if...”。
I will go provided (that) you will go with me.
I will go if you will go with me.
兩句意思一樣，但注意兩者不能隨便替換。
What will happen if they see us?
句中的if不可以替換成provided。不過(guò)通常來(lái)說(shuō)，用provided的場(chǎng)合，用if都是可以的。
v.(動(dòng)詞)
provide用作及物動(dòng)詞時(shí),可表示“提供,供給,供應(yīng),裝備”,后可接名詞或代詞作簡(jiǎn)單賓語(yǔ); 還可接雙賓語(yǔ),常用介詞for引出間接賓語(yǔ),也可用介詞with引出直接賓語(yǔ),有時(shí)with可省略。
provide還可表示法律、規(guī)章、協(xié)議等的“規(guī)定”,往往作為條件提出使之能按照某人的意愿或某種規(guī)則履行,后常接that引起的從句,從句中可以用shall, should, must, may, ought to等,用should, must, ought to時(shí),語(yǔ)氣較重,用may時(shí),語(yǔ)氣較輕,用shall時(shí),指當(dāng)前,語(yǔ)氣一般,也可用虛擬語(yǔ)氣。
provide用作不及物動(dòng)詞時(shí)常與for, against 等介詞搭配。
